PRACTICE AREA

LICENSING & TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER

In the area of licensing and technology transfer Brazil is characterized by the strong intervention of the Brazilian Patent Office, BPTO, which does not limit its analysis to the formal aspects of a license agreement, but also assesses the terms and conditions agreed by the parties.

This requires professionals with a deep knowledge of relevant laws and regulations and, most importantly, of BPTO practice. Professionals that are trained in this area both in Brazil and elsewhere (and actively participate in national and international associations, such as LESI) in order to best advise clients to negotiate, draft and register (when appropriate) patent and trademark license or technology transfer agreements before the BPTO and the Brazilian Central Bank.

Licks Attorneys is proud to have exactly that sort of team and this is why we have been able to help clients set up and run global licensing programs, in Brazil and Latin American countries, maximizing the value of their intellectual property assets and expanding their businesses.
