BRPTO publishes the appointment of new examiners
On Monday, November 3, 2025, the Federal Register published BRPTO/PR Ordinance #308 of October 29, 2025, appointing new BRPTO staff. The appointees were previously approved in the most recent public recruitment drive held by the agency and were part of the Office’s reserve roster. The appointment of these candidates had been authorized by Decree #12,647 of October 1, 2025, as stated in the previous Client Alert.
Among the 107 appointees in the Ordinance, there are 27 new patent examiners, who will work in areas related to biology, electronics, information technology, and related fields. Decree #12,647/2025 authorized the appointment of a total of 120 candidates, 40 of them approved to serve as patent examiners, 40 to handle trademark, industrial design and/or geographical indications examinations, and the remaining 40 to perform administrative functions. The BRPTO informed that it is still reviewing the documentation of the appointees and that the inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 10, 2025.
