BRPTO to debate regulation of alternative sets of claims
This Monday, November 17, the BRPTO announced it will hold an event on December 2 to discuss the Proposal for Regulation of Alternative Sets of Claims in patent applications. The event is part of the “Dialogue with Stakeholders” project.
Although the submission of alternative sets is already permitted, no specific rules currently guide the technical examination process. During the event, the conceptual bases for the proposal will be presented, which was developed from internal studies and consultations with other national patent offices.
The BRPTO will outline the expected benefits for users, such as greater flexibility, a reduction in administrative steps, and closer alignment with international practices. The projected impacts on the Office will also be analyzed, including a potential initial increase in workload, which is expected to be offset by a reduction in the total examination time until granting.
