Sonia Gama is an experienced patent engineer who supervises the international patent practice at Licks Attorneys’ Curitiba office since 2023. She also assists the firm’s patent department in counselling and drafting patent applications for national and international clients. Ms. Gama has more than 20 years of experience in the field of patents, having worked in several IP boutiques and also in the industry, managing and providing protection to its whole worldwide patent and industrial design portfolio, also focusing on monitoring competitor activities and assisting in complex patent litigation issues. She has also featured as a speaker at the Brazilian IP Association events, as well as TV debates alongside household IP experts, and was an organizer of the event “PI em Questão - Novo Marco Legal de Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação: quais suas implicações?” at the BRPTO in 2016.

  • Assisted a major dental implant provider against a worldwide market-leader competitor in launching products in Brazil, and provided technical support and counseling in a patent invalidity litigation against such competitor, wherein the case ended up in a worldwide settlement;
  • Assisted a major dental implant provider in developing and managing their patent and design portfolio in Brazil and abroad;
  • Assisted a major global household appliance manufacturer in protecting their Brazilian innovation results through writing patent applications and prosecuting such cases in Brazil and abroad;
