Vinicius Carvalho is a pharmacist and patent specialist who joined Licks Attorneys’ Rio de Janeiro office in 2021. His work focuses on intellectual property, mainly with prosecution of patent applications and patents at the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO), with emphasis on the pharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnological fields. Mr. Carvalho activities include performing searches, analyzing and reporting technical opinions from the BRPTO and ANVISA (Brazil’s FDA), preparing briefs to comply with or to contest said technical opinions, as well as preparing and replying to third-party observations (pre-grant and post-grant oppositions). As a member of Licks Attorneys’ technical staff, he also assists the litigation team with his technical background in the pharmaceutical field. Mr. Carvalho has knowledge of the Brazilian Patent Statute, normative instructions and examination guidelines issued by the BRPTO, as well as the main intellectual property treaties.
